Veterinary application
The use of ISCOM technology in veterinary vaccine research and development has become more intense. One major factor is the concern relating to the over-use of antibiotics. The pandemic threat, coupled with a growing need for efficient and safe pet vaccines, has significantly increased the interest in ISCOM-based adjuvants.
ISCOM technology is industrially proven, and via its Advet subsidiary, Isconova has several veterinary vaccines on the market. EquipTM, the ISCOM-based vaccine for equine influenza, was introduced on the market by Schering-Plough as early as 1993. An equine vaccine for LHRH was introduced in 2002, and the bovine vaccine for BVDV has been on the market since 2003. Equilis® Prequenza Matrix-based influenza vaccine, jointly developed with Intervet International BV, was launched in November 2006.
Moreover, the new-generation ISCOM technology has been shown to be very suitable for sensitive animals. Vaccines for dogs are under development and safety and toxicological data already support the superiority of the adjuvant.
